  1. Learn about the Museum Contribution Program

    The Museum Contribution Program (MCP) is an annual fund. It's available to 19 museums and First Nations' cultural centres in Yukon. This funding can be used to:

    • hire staff and undertake programming;
    • address cataloguing and registration needs;
    • cover utility expenses;
    • purchase supplies;
    • upgrade and repair buildings and/or exhibits;
    • provide administrative services; and
    • undertake other activities and small projects as determined by staff and/or board of governors.
       

    Yukon museums and cultural centres can apply for funding for specific projects. To do so, they must be on Tourism and Culture’s museums eligibility list.

  2. Learn about the Special Projects Capital Assistance Program

    The Special Capital Projects Assistance Program (SPCAP) is an annual fund. It's available to 19 museums and First Nations' cultural centres in Yukon. Funding may be used for projects involving:

    • exhibit planning and development;
    • small (specialized) capital acquisitions and/or improvements;
    • artifact inventory and cataloguing;
    • small conservation projects;
    • cooperative marketing ventures; or
    • revenue generation enhancement projects.
       

    Yukon museums and cultural centres can apply for funding for specific projects. To do so, they must be on Tourism and Culture’s museums eligibility list.

  3. ​Access training, advice and collections care support

    The Museums and Heritage Unit provides training, advice, and technical and hands-on help to heritage workers. We support the preservation and appreciation of Yukon heritage and history.

    Our services include:

    • administering funding programs;
    • advising on management and operational best practices;
    • providing technical and hands-on help;
    • organizing training opportunities for institutions, staff and independent contractors; and
    • providing report templates for finance and collections condition.

    Funding, reporting and training

    The cultural heritage training coordinator can assist museums and First Nations' cultural centres with funding, reporting and payment questions. They also organize training and skill development opportunities. Email nyla.klugie-migwans@yukon.ca or phone 867-633-7999.

    Collections care and management

    The conservator can help with:

    • preventive conservation;
    • artifact or specimen repair and cleaning;
    • pest management; and
    • emergency planning for collections.
