About 8000 years ago, the ancient artisan who made this slotted antler spear point incised a “maker’s mark” then dyed it with red ochre, a legacy for future generations.

It is extremely rare to find a hafted foreshaft; that is, a stone spear or arrow point that is still bound with sinew to the wooden shaft. This artifact is just under 5000 years old.
