Dakhká Khwáan Dancers at 2010 Olympics/Yukon Government

The Government of Yukon hosts or sends cultural contingents to recurring circumpolar, Canadian, and international events with representation of vivid and dynamic artists and performers. 


2016 Arctic Winter Games

Yukon will be sending a group of talented youth aged 15-21 to participate in the cultural contingent for the 2016 Arctic Winter Games in Nuuk, Greenland.

The biennial Arctic Winter Games is a sport and cultural event involving teams from Yukon, Alaska, NWT, Northern Alberta, Nunavut, Greenland, Yamal (Russia), Nunavik Quebec, and Sápmi (Scandinavia).

The Yukon last hosted in 2012. The 2014 Arctic Winter Games were in Fairbanks, Alaska. These were the Yukon's cultural ambassadors joining Team Yukon in 2014.


 

Past events
  • In 2013 the National Arts Centre curated a multi-venue showcase in Ottawa of northern visual and performing artists. Northern Scene featured over 80 Yukon artists to many sold-out audiences.
  • In 2010, the Yukon carried out significant cultural programming at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and shared Northern House with the NWT and Nunavut at the Vancouver Olympics.
  • In 2007, Whitehorse hosted the Canada Winter Games.
